zhè cì wǒ gěi dà jiā dài lái de chéngyǚ shì “zìxiāngmáodùn”, tā lái zì zhè yàng yí gè gùshì:

gǔshíhòu, máo hé dùn dōu shì zuò zhàn yòng dê wǔqì. máo yòng lái cì shā dírén, dùn zé yòng lái bǎohù shēntǐ,

yǐ miǎn duì fāng dê máo cì zhòng.

chuán shuō hěn jǐu yǐ qián, chǔ guó yǒu gè mài bīng qì de rén, zài shìchǎng shàng mài máo hé dùn.

wèi le ràng gùkè yuànyì mǎi tā de huò, tā xiān jǘ qǐ dùn xiàng rénmén kuākǒu dào:"nǐmén kǎn,

rúguǒ nǐ de péngyǒu shuō bù xǐhuān chī tiánshí, dān yī huù ěr yòu shuō xiāng chī bīngjīlíng, nǐ jìu kěyǐ shuō tā zìxiāngmáodùn.

A man of the state of Chu had a spear and a shield for sale. He was loud in praises of his shield.

"My shield is so strong that nothing can pierce it through."

He also sang praises of his spear.

"My spear is so strong that it can pierce through anything."

"What would happen," he was asked, "if your spear is used to pierce your shield?"

It is impossible for an impenetrable shield to coexist with a spear that finds nothing impenetrable.

zhè cì wǒ gěi dà jiā dài lái de chéngyǚ shì “hújiǎhǔwēi”, tā lái zì zhè yàng yí gè gùshì:

lǎohǔ zài sēnlín lǐ zhuō dào le yìzhī húlí, yào chī diào tā. jiǎohuá de húlí liánmáng shuō:”

nǐ bù néng chī wǒ, wǒ shì shàng tiān pài lái tǒngzhì suǒyǒu yěshòu de. nǐ yào chī le wǒ,

jìu wéikàng le shàngtiān de mìnglìng. nǐ búxìn, jìu gēn wǒ dào sēnlín lǐ qù yītàng,

kànkàn shì bù shì suǒyǒu de yěshòu jiàn le wǒ dōu yào gǎnkuài táomìng.” Lǎohǔ xiāngxìn le húlí

de huà, jìu gēn zài húlí de hòumiàn zǒu jìn sēnlín.

dēnlín lǐ dādāxiǎoxiǎo de yěshòu, kànjiàn húlí dàyāodàbǎi dì zǒu guò lái,

hòumiàn gēn zhe yīzhī zhāngyáwǔzhǎo de dà lāohǔ, dōu xiàdé yào mìng, sì chù bēn táo.

Lǎohǔ yǐwéi yěshòu zhēn de hàipà húlí ér bùzhīdào shì hàipà zìjǐ, yǘshì jìu bǎ húlí gěi fàng le.

“hújiǎhǔwēi” zhè gè chéngyǚ yòng lái bǐyǜ yǐzhàng bíerén de shìlì qù qīyā huò xiàhǔ rén.

“狐假虎威”这个成语用来比喻倚仗别人的势力去欺压人或吓唬人。

gōngzuò zhōng, rúguǒ nǐ de tóngshì zǒng shì jiè zhe lǎobǎn de míngyì ràng bíe én zuò shì, nǐ jìu kěyǐ shuò tā shìhújiǎhǔwēi.

Fox Basked in Tiger's Reflected Glory

A tiger caught a fox in a forest, and was just about to eat it, when the sly fox said, 'You mustn't eat me. I was sent by Heaven to rule the animals. By eating me, you will violate the command of Heaven. If you don't believe me, just follow me to see whether the animals are of me.' The tiger agreed, and followed the fox as it walked around the forest. The animals all ran away on seeing them. The tiger thought they were of the fox, so he let it go. He didn't realise that it was him that the beasts were really of.
This idiom means relying on another's power to bully or frighten others

狡猾: [ jiǎo huá ]： sly

大大小小的野兽[da da xiao xiao de ye shou]： all kinds of animals

大摇大摆: [ dà yáo dà bǎi ] ： swagger

张牙舞爪: [ zhāng yá wǔ zhǎo ]：make threatening gestures

Staying by a Stump Waiting for More Hares To Come and Dash Themselves Against It

This story took place more than 2,000 years ago,in the Warring States period（475-221 B.C.）.Tradition has it that in the State of Song at that time there was a man who was famous for staying by a stump waiting for more hares to come and dash themselves against it.

He was a yong farmer, and his family had been farmers for generations.Year after year and generation after generation, farmers used to sow in spring and harvest in autumn, beginning to work at sunrise and retiring at sunset. In good harvest years, they could only have enough food to eat and enough clothing to wear.If there was a famine due to crop failure, they had to go hungry.

This young farmer wanted to improve his life. But he was too lazy and too cowardly.Being lazy and cowardly over everything,he often dreamed of having unexpected blessings.

A miracle took place at last. One day in late autumn, when he was ploughing in the field, two groups of people were hunting nearby. As shoutings were rising one after another, scared hares were running desperately.Suddenly,a blind hare dashed itself headlong against the stump of a dead tree in his field and died.

  That day,he ate his fill.

From that day on,he no longer went in for farming again. From morning till night,he stayed by that miraculous stump, waiting for miracles to take place again.

This story comes from"The Five Vermin"in The Works of Han Feizi.Later generations often use the set phrase"staying by a stump waiting for more hares to come and dash themselves against it"to show grusting to chance and windfalls or dreaming to reap without sowing. It is also used to show adhering to narrow experiences and not being able to be flexible.

It is also used to show adhering to narrow experiences and not being able to be flexible.

péngyǒumén, nǐménhǎo:

zhècì wǒ gěi nǐmén dàilái de chéngyǚ shì bámiáozhùzhǎng. Tā lázìyǘ zhèyàng yígè gùshì:

Gǔsíihòu sòngguō yǒu gè rén, kàndào zìjǐ tiānlǐ de hémiáo zhǎngdé tài màn, xīnlǐ hěn zhāojí.

Yìtiān, tā gāncuǐ xià tián dòngshǒu bǎ hémiáo yì zhū zhū dì wǎngshàng bágāo yì jíe. Tā píbeìbúkān dì huídào jiālǐ, duì jiālǐ rén shuō :’jīntiān kě bǎ wǒ leìhuaǐ le! Wǒ yíxiàzǐ ràng hémiáo zhǎng gāo le xǚ duō!”

Zhègè chéngyǚ de yǜyì shì: rénhé shìwù dōuyǒu zìjǐ de guīlǜ; rūguǒ wéifǎn shìwù fāzhǎn de kèguān guīlǜ, jíyǘqíuchéng, fǎnér huàishì.

Zhègè gùshì chūzì , zhè shì yíbù jìlù mèngzǐ sīxiǎng yánlùn de shū. Mèngzǐ (yuē gōngyuánqián 390—qián 305), míng kē, zì zǐyǘ, zhànguó shíqī rén, shǐ dāngshí rújiā de zhǔyào dàibiǎo rénwù.

the idiom is "bámiáozhùzhǎng" and is taken from a story.

The story tells us of a man from Song Kuo (Song Kuo was a small country in Warring States Period of ancient China.). When he saw his crops were growing slowly, he was very worried. So one day, he pulled on the crops with his hands to make the plants look taller than they were before.

After he was finished, he was exhausted. When he got home, the man said to his family:” I'm worn out, but I have made the crops grow faster than ever.”

His son heard that and then immediately went to the field. He saw that all of the crops were wilted.

This idiom means that everything has its rule. If you break the rule, you must be punished. The attempt to succeed quickly only makes matter worse.

This story was from the classical book named .
Mencius was a great man who lived in Warring States Period about BC 390-BC 305 in ancient China. He represented the teachings of Confucius and became as famous as Confucius.

Yǎu rén bǎ fānyì chéng yīngwén, shì zhèyàng de:

Gaoshanliushui is one of Chinese idiom. Its literal means is high mountain and running river. In fact, it was used to describe bosom friends or a beautiful music.

It is from a Chinese ancient story. In Chan Kuo period of ancient china, there is a person named Yu Boya who was a famous musician. One time, he went to visit Tai shan (which lied in Shandong province of China) by boat. Unfortunately, when he arrived there, it was storm. At that time, there was nothing to do, so Yu Boya began to play. His first music was about raining that was very lingering, his second music was about landslide that was very roaring. At that time, He suddenly heard an applause from someone. He immediately went out to look for the person. He found a woodman standing on the bank. He invited the person to went to his boat, and played for him. First, he played a music named . At the end, the person said:” so good, there is a high mountain just like Tai shan.” Yu Boya was very happy. Second, he played a music named . After he played it, the woodman said:” so great, there is a running river just like Changjiang river and Huanghe river.”

After introducing themselves, He known that the woodman’s name was Zhong Ziqi. They talked about music a long time, and felt very well. When they said goodbye, they made a date to meet each other the next year. But after that soon, Zhong Ziqi died for some reason.

The next year, when Yu Boya came there for the appointment, he beat his breast in agony after he learnt that. Zhong ziqi’s father brought Yu Boya to his tomb. In front of the tomb, he played the music and . After that, he broken his musical instrument. Zhong’s father asked him that why he did that. He said:” Without Zhong ziqi, who can understand my music?”

From that, people called good friends as “Zhiyin”, and used this idiom to describe bosom friends.
